Sept. 11
Rolling Requiem
With the approaching anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks,
the world seeks ways to remember the fallen and to mark the moment with
sorrow and hope. In remembrance of those who lost their lives last
September 11, the Coventry Chorale in association with Trinity Episcopal
Church will sponsor a FREE performance of Mozart's "REQUIEM" at 8:46 a.m. on
September 11, 2002 in the Nave of Trinity Episcopal Church, 501. S.
Cincinnati. The concert is part of the Seattle Symphony Chorus "Rolling
Requiem" project, and organizations from around the world are participating.
Beginning at the International Dateline, in every time zone of the world,
choirs will begin singing Mozart's "REQUIEM" at 8:46 A.M. local time,
creating a "Rolling Requiem," a worldwide choral commemoration of all those
who lost their lives in the tragedy. Each participant will wear a heart
badge bearing the name of one of the fallen. Choirs from Australia,
Thailand, Russia, Israel, Poland, Germany, Wales, Canada and the United
States, just to name a few, are planning performances of Mozart's beautiful
choral composition. Some of the cities where performances will take place
in the United States include Boston, New York, Cleveland, Chicago,
Indianapolis, Dallas, Phoenix and Tulsa. The Tulsa performance is the only
one in the 4-state region of Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma.
A chorus of 65 singers from the Coventry Chorale, Trinity Church, Tulsa
Opera, Tulsa Oratorio Chorus and Holland Hall School, soloists, and an
orchestra of Tulsa Philharmonic musicians will present the "REQUIEM" to this
4-state area. The concert, directed by David Rollo (Coventry Chorale),
features guest conductors Dr. Frank Ryan (University of Tulsa), Mr. Ronald
Wheeler (Tulsa Youth Symphony), Mr. Steven Dyer (Holland Hall School), and
Dr. Carol Crawford (Tulsa Opera).
Those attending this FREE performance of the Mozart "REQUIEM" at Trinity
Episcopal Church on Wednesday, September 11 are asked to be seated in the
church by 8:40 a.m.
This commemorative event is free and open to the public.
